What Is a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business?

Meet the veteran owner behind Office Furniture EZ and learn what our SBA-certified SDVOSB status means for the customers and organizations we serve.

What SDVOSB Certification Means

A Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business, often shortened to SDVOSB, is a small business that is at least 51 percent owned and controlled by one or more veterans with a service-connected disability. Office Furniture EZ is certified through the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Veteran Small Business Certification program.

This certification verifies the company’s qualifying veteran ownership and can allow Office Furniture EZ to participate in certain federal contracting opportunities available to certified SDVOSBs. It also gives government agencies, prime contractors, and other organizations a clear way to identify and verify our status.

For customers outside government contracting, the designation may be less familiar, but the business behind it is the same: a Colorado office furniture company built and led by a veteran, with a longstanding commitment to dependable service, practical solutions, and follow-through.

Meet Gary Schwankl

Headshot of Gary Schwankl, founder and veteran owner of Office Furniture EZ

Gary Schwankl is the veteran owner of Office Furniture EZ, a Colorado office furniture company founded in 2008. He remains actively involved in the business, working with customers, reviewing projects, supporting the team, and helping organizations find practical furniture solutions for their spaces.

Gary’s military service is an important part of his story, but he does not treat veteran ownership as a slogan. The values associated with service, including preparation, accountability, respect for procedures, and responsibility to the people depending on you, continue to influence how he leads the company.

Customers may meet Gary in the showroom, speak with him about a project, or see him working alongside the Office Furniture EZ team. His approach is straightforward: listen carefully, communicate honestly, solve problems, and follow the work through.

More Than a Certification

For Office Furniture EZ, being a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business means more than holding a contracting designation. It reflects who owns and leads the business, as well as the principles that guide how our team works every day.

Customers depend on us to help them make practical decisions, coordinate details, communicate clearly, and carry projects through from planning to installation. That means listening carefully, preparing thoroughly, respecting schedules and site requirements, and remaining accountable when challenges arise.

Whether we are furnishing a small office, supporting a government agency, or coordinating a larger workplace installation, our goal is the same: do the work responsibly, treat people fairly, and deliver a solution that serves the customer well.

Working With Government Agencies and Contractors

Office Furniture EZ works with government agencies, government contractors, and other organizations that may consider veteran-owned business status as part of their purchasing or procurement process.

Our SBA-certified SDVOSB status gives agencies, contractors, and other prospective partners a clear way to verify our ownership and certification. It may also support participation in certain federal contracting opportunities, supplier-diversity initiatives, and subcontracting relationships.

Beyond the certification itself, our team understands that these projects may involve documentation, multiple stakeholders, scheduled access, facility requirements, and carefully coordinated delivery and installation. We work with authorized contacts to keep the furniture process organized from planning through completion.
