How to Add Workstations to Your Existing Office Layout (Without Sacrificing Comfort or Productivity)
By Gary Schwankl, Owner of Office Furniture EZ
When your business is growing, space can get tight fast. The good news is that you don’t always have to move to a bigger office just to fit a few more people. With a little planning and the right furniture choices, you can add workstations to your existing layout while keeping everyone productive and comfortable.
Here’s how we’ve been helping businesses around Denver and Colorado Springs solve this challenge for years:
Step 1: Take a Fresh Look at Your Space
Start with a walk-through of your office. Look for wide hallways, unused corners, or conference rooms that are bigger than they need to be. A few small changes can open up enough space for several additional desks.
At Office Furniture EZ, we offer free space planning consultations, so we can be a fresh set of eyes for you! We can visit your office, measure everything, and show you a layout that makes the most of the square footage you already have.
Step 2: Pick the Right Type of Workstation
Different offices call for different solutions. Compact cubicles, benching systems, and height-adjustable desks each have advantages. Modular systems can grow with you and are easy to reconfigure later.
Because we have showrooms in both Denver and Colorado Springs, you can see, touch, and test out the furniture yourself before making a decision.
Step 3: Keep Workflows in Mind
Where you place new workstations matters. Put teams that collaborate near each other to keep conversations quick, and give departments that need focus a quieter area. Make sure you leave enough clearance for walkways and ADA compliance – generally at least three feet between rows works well.
Our team can create a layout plan so you know your space will stay functional and efficient.
Step 4: Maintain a Good Balance of Privacy and Openness
Adding more desks can increase noise. Use low panels, acoustic screens, or even tall plants to give people a little separation and reduce distractions without closing off the space completely.
Step 5: Plan for Storage and Power
More people means more laptops, cords, and personal items. Include cable management, shared storage, and extra power outlets or charging stations to keep things neat.
